What is "Make America Beautiful Again?"
President Trump signed an executive order to “Make America Beautiful Again.” Let’s break it down…
America’s natural beauty, vast landscape, and wild spaces have inspired our people throughout our nation’s history. We have a duty to conserve and steward this land — to keep these places functioning, pristine, and untouched for future generations.
But we have many hurdles to overcome. Forest management challenges and increasing environmental disasters are costing the nation hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Restrictions on federal land-use are prohibiting recreation, hunting, and angling access. Our National Parks are in $23 billion of debt. America’s crumbling water infrastructure and worsening droughts are endangering communities and our natural environments.
As we face these environmental challenges, we now have the opportunity to come together for nature.
Americans don’t have to hail from the same political party to agree that these problems require action from the federal government. That’s why Nature Is Nonpartisan worked with the White House on this executive order that establishes a nonpartisan commission to conserve, restore, and improve our natural environment through market-based solutions, public-private partnerships, and state-led initiatives.
The Make America Beautiful Again Commission will bring federal and state officials, private sector leaders, conservation organizations, and tribal governments together to develop policy strategies for seven national conservation priorities:
Protecting Water Resources
Restoring Forests and Natural Habitats
Reducing Waste and Pollution
Recovering America’s Wildlife
Enhancing Hunting, Fishing, and Outdoor Recreation on Public Lands
Building Environmental Resilience and Security
Advancing Conservation Education and Global Leadership
In 180 days, the Commission will submit a comprehensive strategy outlining recommended actions for achieving long-term conservation success. The Commission will also provide an annual progress report summarizing achievements and ongoing policy recommendations.
Nature Is Nonpartisan has organized a coalition with diverse political backgrounds to find common ground on the environment and build comprehensive solutions that transcend partisan division. This nonpartisan coalition includes the National Wildlife Federation, American Forests, Ducks Unlimited, and the American Conservation Coalition — and it continues to grow. We agree that: (1) it’s our responsibility to conserve our nation’s natural beauty and function, no matter what party is in power, and (2) the only way to create long-lasting policy that actually works for both the environment and the American people is by working across party lines. This executive order creates the structure for us to do just that at the highest level of American governance.
The real work starts now. Nature Is Nonpartisan looks forward to bringing leaders and decision-makers together and holding them accountable as we build the future of environmental policy and bolster America’s conservation legacy.
